Network - SIP Migration | RingCentral

« Go Back

SummaryWhat is SIP Migration?
The migration to SIP over TCP will improve the call signalling function of the RingCentral service including fewer call drops, reduced one-way audio issues, improved firewall compatibility, improved call handling capabilities over wireless, and will generally be able to better withstand packet loss in high traffic office environments or while using mobile devices on bandwidth limited wireless networks.

What is SIP over TCP?

We have upgraded our servers to support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling over the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). Previously, the RingCentral service utilized SIP over the User Datagram Protocol (UDP). The TCP protocol provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of packet streams between supported endpoints and the RingCentral servers.

When will my account be migrated?

The IT administrator for your RingCentral Office account will receive two notification emails with details about the migration for your account.  Within the email, your account migration date and upgrade window will be included within the message.

What must I do to prepare for this change?

IT administrators should update their firewall settings to ensure a seamless transition to SIP/TCP.  SIP/TCP requires the use of slightly different IP ports to make use of the new protocols and to communicate with the RingCentral network.
