RingCentral Phone for Desktop - Purging Data

You may experience having problems when you use the RingCentral Phone for Desktop. One issue is when you cannot see new messages on the app. The most common cause of this issue is when the app-data folder is full.

When you experience having problems with the RingCentral Phone application on your computer, you may need to perform some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Most issues can be resolved by:

• logging out of your RingCentral Phone account, then logging back in
• rebooting the computer
• deauthorizing the RingCentral Phone on the Online account

If the issue persists after completing these steps, it may be necessary to purge the data associated with the RingCentral Phone for Desktop. Purging data can be done manually or automatically.

Purging the Data Automatically


1. Click the Settings button.

2. Click the Support tab, then click Purge data.

3.  Click Erase.

4. Restart your computer.


5. Log back in to the RingCentral Phone app.

NOTE: If the issue is unresolved, you may need to purge the data manually.

1. Open the RingCentral Phone app.


2. Press the CTRL + F1 keys.


3. Click App data folder.

If a new File Explorer window opens successfully, proceed to Step 4. Otherwise, follow the steps below.

1. Open a new File Explorer window.


2. Navigate to This PC on the left-hand side. Look for Windows (C:), then click this folder.

3. Find the folder that corresponds to your User profile.

NOTE: It will not be "Public" or "Default".

4. Once your User folder is open, go to the app's data folder, which can be done in 2 ways:

Click the address bar, then enter "\AppData\Local\RingCentral" to the location.

Show hidden files and locate the AppData folder

Make sure hidden files are shown on your User folder. Navigate to AppData\Local\RingCentral.


4. Log out of RingCentral Phone, then close the application.


5. Close the application's background process — click the Show hidden icons button (up arrow button) at the bottom right of your screen. Right-click the RingCentral Phone icon, then click Exit.

6. Delete the RingCentral Phone folder contents.


7. Open the RingCentral Phone app, log in to your user extension. Test to see if the issue has been resolved.

If the issue persists, please contact RingCentral support.


Purging the Data Manually - Mac


1. Open the RingCentral Phone app.


2. Press the ⌘ + fn + F1 keys, or ⌘ + F1 (only one will work depending on your Mac OS settings).


3. Click App data folder.

If a new Finder window opens successfully, proceed to Step 4. Otherwise, follow the steps below.

Go to the app's data folder, which can be done in 2 ways:


Open the data folder through Go to Folder

Select Go in the toolbar on top of the display. Hold the option key, then select the Library option.

Go to /Application Support/RingCentral.


Navigate to the data folder through the Finder

Open the Finder, then in the toolbar at the top of the display, select Go, then Go to Folder.

Enter ~/Library/Application Support/RingCentral into the field.


4. Log out of RingCentral Phone. Close the application — go to File > Quit RingCentral Phone.


5. Delete the RingCentral Phone folder contents.

NOTE: In the open explorer window from Steps 2 and 3, you should see the RingCentral Phone folder or the contents of the RingCentral Phone folder. Highlight all of these items and delete them. You can also delete the entire RingCentral Phone folder if that is easier. 


6. Open the RingCentral Phone app, log in to your user extension. Test to see if the issue has been resolved.
